Media and film resources
Technical Resource Centre
The Technical Resource Centre (TRC) is your central point of contact for specialist technology support within the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture. Located in Room 133, Robert Webster building, the TRC provides expert help for students and staff working with creative, technical and production-based tools and environments.
Our friendly and experienced team is part of the Multimedia & Immersive Technology Support group and we’re here to make sure you have access to the right equipment, software and facilities to support your studies, projects, and research. Whether you’re editing video, designing in a studio, recording audio, or exploring immersive technologies, the TRC helps you get the most out of the faculty’s specialist resources.
What we do
We manage and support a wide range of technologies across the Faculty’s labs, studios and production spaces. This includes:
- Specialised IT and AV systems – high-performance computers, editing suites, and creative software in labs and studios.
- Audio and video production equipment – cameras, microphones, lighting kits, recorders, and related gear available for short-term loan.
- Studio and lab support – ensuring teaching, learning, and research environments are equipped and maintained to industry standards.
- Technology advice and training – guidance on using hardware, software, and production tools safely and effectively.
- Custom solutions – technical support for creative projects, research installations, and experimental work involving digital media or immersive technologies.
Who we support
The TRC primarily supports students, academic staff, and researchers in the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture. We work closely with the schools and disciplines that rely on creative technologies, including media, design, art, architecture, music, theatre and performance.

Production resources for media
The School of the Arts & Media (SAM) supports several production facilities for students completing production courses, such as Video Production. These resources are limited and are only available to students within the school who have been trained in equipment use and care.
We maintain three multimedia labs, one sound lab, two sound recording studios, two stop motion labs, video editing suites, digital stills and video cameras, lighting kits, sound recording equipment. For comprehensive information about production equipment, equipment manuals and borrowing guidelines, visit our Technical Resources.
Production permissions and clearance forms
There are two kinds of clearance forms for student project performance and student project included work.
- Student project performance (shooting permissions): during production work, you may have to record, interview or photograph someone; if so, you need to get them to sign a release form.
- Student project included work (copyright clearance): occasionally, you may want to use work created by other people who own the copyright to their work; if so, you will need to get them to sign a copyright release form.
