The challenge

Financial activity that threatens national stability can weaken security, slow economic development and reduce public confidence. These impacts are especially significant in vulnerable environments. Traditional approaches to assessing national level financial risks are often infrequent, subjective and unable to keep pace with fast evolving risks.

Our solution

A platform to support the collection, analysis and dissemination of financial intelligence products for Papua New Guinea. The platform is called Kundu and aims to strengthen and enable a framework for effective financial intelligence gathering to inform an evidence-based risk management approach to the supervision of reporting entities as well as supporting investigations and prosecuting financial crimes in Papua New Guinea and cross borders.

The Digital platform is designed and developed via a close, on-going partnership with the Bank of Papua New Guinea’s FASU (Financial Analysis and Supervision Unit – PNG’s Financial Intelligence Unit), and supported by DFAT. It is a world first system that transforms how countries understand and respond to evolving financial risks.

This IS4SSR initiative is funded as a proof-of-concept program designed to demonstrate feasibility, measurable impact and scalability. Early success is expected to drive long term expansion across Pacific nations, with potential application in other vulnerable environments and relevant intelligence organisations worldwide. The model is designed for growth and the opportunity to scale is both strategic and timely. Early success is expected to drive long term expansion across Pacific nations, with potential application in other vulnerable environments and relevant intelligence organisations worldwide, extending well beyond PNG.
