Education Building (G25)
Overview
UNSW’s new Education Building (G25) will be a major new teaching and learning facility for the UNSW Kensington campus.
Located on the eastern side of UNSW’s Kensington campus, the new 12-storey Education Building will deliver a modern vertical campus with more than 20,000 square metres of purpose-built teaching, learning and student-led spaces.
The development will increase UNSW’s teaching capacity while enhancing the quality, flexibility and inclusivity of learning environments for current and future students. The facility will support UNSW’s move to the new academic semester calendar in 2028.
Desinged to support contemporary teaching and learning, G25 will feature a mix of flexible classrooms, three large double-height teaching venues, informal study areas and a variety of collaboration and social areas. It will include dry clinic and research space for UNSW’s School of Psychology. Features such as landscaped terraces, a cafe and inclusive, neurodiversity-friendly study environments are designed to support student wellbeing and create a vibrant academic hub.
The G25 building has been designed to be energy efficient. Active travel will be promoted through new bicycle parking and ‘end-of-trip’ facilities, supporting UNSW’s broader sustainability and transport goals. Enhanced landscaping, mature tree planting and new public spaces will enhance biodiversity and improve campus amenities for everyone who uses the campus.
The public domain surrounding the nearby Gate 11 will be upgraded to create a welcoming, pedestrian-friendly campus entry, with a new plaza, improved pathways and stronger connections to the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct.
As a State Significant Development, G25 has undergone rigorous assessment through the NSW planning process, including detailed studies on overshadowing, traffic, privacy and environmental impacts.
Construction is expected be completed in 2028.

The building site is located on the corner of Botany Street and Gate 11, on the upper campus. It will sit alongside the Botany Street Car Park and is adjacent to Library Walk.

G25 will be 12 storeys above ground (including a roof plant and basement). The design incorporates setbacks, façade modulation, and landscaping to help minimise visual impact.

The design team has considered privacy through orientation, façade treatment, and careful planning of terraces and internal spaces. UNSW has worked to minimise impact of the facility and the construction program on our neighbours

Detailed solar access and overshadowing studies have been submitted as part of the planning process. These assessments help ensure that impacts on nearby residences are understood and mitigated where possible.
In response to community feedback, the project team revised the building’s design to reduce the solar impacts to neighbours. The design team have setback the rooftop and plant, and updated the solar, visual, privacy and social impact assessments.

The ground level car park has been removed, but the Botany Street Car Park will remain open for the duration of works. Accessible parking spaces are available for use inside the Botany Street Car Park.
UNSW is reviewing campus-wide transport, parking and active-travel strategies to help manage impacts on the surrounding streets.

Construction will operate under a Construction Environmental Management Plan. This will include controls for noise, traffic, dust suppression and vibration. Work hours will follow regulatory requirements, and UNSW will monitor compliance closely.
UNSW is working closely with those doing sensitve research to minimise impact of noise and vibration for nearby facilities. Contact the project team if you would like to learn more.
UNSW has prepared a comprehensive upper campus approach to managing and minimising construction parking in local streets.

The project team has carried out traffic assessments as part of the State Significant Development process. The building is designed to prioritise walking, cycling and public transport, reducing reliance on vehicles. Construction workers are not permitted to park in neighbouring streets.

The project incorporates Connecting with Country principles, recognising our community's local Indigenous perspectives.

G25 targets Green Star certification, extensive landscaping, energy-efficient design, and Platinum WiredScore for digital resilience and connectivity.
UNSW will plant more than 100 mature native trees and ferns to promote biodiversity in the area.
