Sam (Meysam) Arvan is a Senior Health Data Scientist at the Centre for Big Data Research in Health (CBDRH), UNSW Sydney. He leads the design and implementation of scalable, secure data architectures that underpin advanced analytics and research projects across the health sector. His current work within the CardiacAI research group focuses on building governed pipelines that transform complex clinical and administrative data into interoperable, analysis-ready assets. Further, he is applying and evaluating AI methods to tackle real-world health problems to strengthen health services and decision-making, while turning health data into valuable assets for high-quality, data-driven care.

With several years of experience in the health industry, Sam has worked across advanced analytics, resource planning, forecasting, syndromic surveillance, data modelling, and data architecture design for national virtual-care and public-health programs. He brings a combination of leadership, systems thinking and technical depth, with a focus on reliability, privacy, and operational efficiency, enabling teams to deliver robust insights at scale.

Sam holds a PhD in Decision Sciences, specialising in predictive analysis in the presence of human intervention, and a Master of Science focused on health system operations optimisation.
