Dr Ripon Chakrabortty

Dr Ripon Kumar Chakrabortty is "A Decision Scientist who applies Artificial Intelligence and Optimisation Models in Decision-Making for Complex Systems”. His research interests span a broad spectrum of topics, including decision analytics, applied artificial intelligence, evolutionary computation, operations research, and applied optimisation, with a focus on the "Global Supply Chain and Logistics, along with Medical Informatics" domains. As an industrial engineer with a strong focus on data-driven decision-making, machine learning, deep learning models, and optimization tools, his academic contributions profoundly impact various industries, optimizing manufacturing processes, supply chains, healthcare logistics, and service networks. By integrating advanced AI-based technologies, he enables Australian businesses to stay competitive, reduce costs, and improve productivity, ultimately contributing to the country's economic growth and sustainability.  He is a well-known educator in the Decision Analytics and Systems Engineering discipline, where he has been teaching multiple courses with distinction. He is coordinating the Master of Decision Analytics program at UNSW Canberra. He is an Editorial Board Member of multiple well-recognised journals, and currently the lead of the Artificial Intelligence Community of Practice (CoP) in the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM). Throughout his career, he has secured more than 5 million Category 1 research grants from numerous organisations, such as the Australian Research Council (ARC), the Department of Defence, the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT), the Department of Education (Australia), and the Commonwealth Government of Australia.

PhD scholarships ($38,438 per year) are available for high-achieving students (with H1/High Distinction in UG and/or Master's by Research) in computer science, AI, and industrial engineering domains under my supervision.

Students with good programming skills and prior knowledge of optimisation and algorithms are encouraged to apply. Students with excellent programming and communication skills will be highly appreciated. Several types of scholarships are available; however, admission and scholarship applications are highly competitive.
