Entry requirements

There are two different entry pathways to the Master of Construction Project Management. The program you apply for will depend on whether you’re eligible for undertake the accelerated program or not. This is based on the depth of your prior experience, and how closely it relates to construction project management.

1.7 year full-time program | 72 Units of Credit (UOC)

  • A bachelor degree with a credit average in a related field*, OR
  • A bachelor degree in any field with a credit average plus two years construction industry experience at a managerial level, OR
  • A Graduate Certificate in Construction (or construction related fields) from an Australian institution with a credit average (equivalent to a UNSW WAM of 65)

1 year full-time program | 48 Units of Credit (UOC)

  • An undergraduate honours degree with a credit average in a related field*, OR
  • An undergraduate honours with a credit average in an unrelated field honours plus 2 years construction industry experience at a managerial level, OR
  • A master’s degree with a credit average in a related* field

If you meet the criteria for the 1 year program, you’ll receive Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) credit points for three subjects (24 UOC). 

*Related fields are:

  • Built environment disciplines
  • Engineering
  • Business
  • Law

Admission pathways

If you didn’t meet the entry requirements in your undergraduate studies, you may be eligible to study UNSW’s Graduate Certificate in Construction Project Management as a pathway into the Master’s program. 

English language requirements

 

You may be asked to provide evidence of your English proficiency to study at UNSW depending on your educational background and citizenship. English language skills are vitally important for coping with lectures, tutorials, assignments and examinations - this is why UNSW requires a minimum English language competency for enrolment.

If you’re completing an Australian Year 12 qualification (e.g. NSW HSC or equivalent), you do not need to provide anything extra to prove your proficiency. Your qualification will be used as evidence of your English proficiency.

If you do need to provide evidence of your English proficiency, this will be indicated in your application. You can prove this by providing evidence that you meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • English language tests and university English courses
  • Prior study in the medium of English
  • Other qualifications

Program structure

The UNSW Master of Construction Project Management will give you the strategic thinking and technical expertise needed to oversee multimillion-dollar developments from planning through to completion.

You'll learn general management and project management principles and techniques, and how to effectively apply them. The program can be completed in 1.7 years full-time, or 1 year full-time if you are eligible for the accelerated program.  

Full program structure

Each university year at UNSW has three terms and an optional summer study period. You can study full-time or part-time, typically fitting two or three courses into a term and one course in a summer term. The program structure varies depending on your eligibility and chosen pathway.

1.7-years Master of Construction Project Management – 72 Units of Credit (UOC)

  • Advanced disciplinary core courses – 42 UOC (7 courses)
  • Prescribed elective courses – 12 UOC (2 courses)  
  • Research preparation course – 6 UOC (1 course)
  • Research project – 12 UOC (1 major project)

1-year Master of Construction Project Management (Accelerated) – 48 Units of Credit (UOC)

  • Disciplinary core courses – 42 UOC (7 courses)
  • Prescribed elective course – 6 UOC (1 course)

Research project

In your final term of study, you'll independently undertake a major research project, specialising in an area of interest to build further depth and expertise in that area. Your project will relate to professional practice in project management, equipping you with real-world skills you can carry into the workplace.
