What do you need to know? (Last updated: 11th November 2025)

UNSW is introducing a flex-semester calendar in 2028 to provide students with greater flexibility in their study options and a differentiated student experience.

From 22nd October 2025, UNSW offer letters for students commencing in Term 3 2026 and beyond, due to complete their studies in 2028 or beyond, have been updated to reflect the flex-semester end dates rather than the current term calendar end dates.

These updates ensure that all documentation accurately reflects the flex-semester calendar dates and supports a smooth transition for students.

Below are some frequently asked questions to support agents when advising prospective and accepted students.

Agent FAQs

  • UNSW is updating offer letters for future students to reflect the new flex-semester academic calendar end dates which come into effect in 2028. This ensures that all offer documentation accurately represents the future study period and aligns with the academic calendar that will take effect in 2028.

  • The flex-semester calendar is a new academic structure commencing in 2028 that provides increased flexibility for students, better student engagement and experiences, and enhanced opportunities for study progression and mobility.

  • The flex-semester will come into effect for the majority of UNSW students in 2028. Updates to offer letters will affect students who receive new offers for T3 2026 and beyond, where their studies are planned to continue into 2028 and beyond.

All students whose study at UNSW will continue into 2028 will receive targeted support throughout the transition to the flex-semester.

  • The only change is the program end date where a student’s studies continue into 2028 and beyond. This end date will now reflect the expected completion under the flex-semester calendar rather than the current term schedule. All other details - such as program start date, content, fees, and offer conditions - remain unchanged.

  • No. Students who have already been granted a visa are not affected by this update and do not need to take any further action. Once they commence their studies, they will be supported through UNSW’s calendar transition. Early resources can be found on the Academic Calendar website.

  • This update aligns program information with the flex-semester academic calendar to be introduced in 2028. Any future adjustments to program duration or structure will be determined through standard academic governance processes.

  • Agents should reassure students that:

    • The change is a standard administrative update.
    • Their offer is valid and reflects the same program, fees and conditions, with the only change being the end date.
    • The end date ensures accuracy for study planning and visa purposes.
    • Where a student has received an offer letter and has not yet applied for or received a visa, students should proceed as planned unless UNSW issues an updated offer letter, in which case students should use the new version for their visa application.
    • Where a student has received an offer letter and a visa, upon commencement of their students will receive targeted support to transition to our new calendar in 2028.
  • For questions or clarification, agents can contact their reach out to their Regional Manager.

Additional information about the flex-semester transition will be made available through official communications and on the Academic Calendar website.
