PhD candidates

  • Amy joined the AOM Lab group in 2023 as a Ph.D. Student. She is a current recipient of The Royal Thai Government Scholarship under The Ministry of Higher education, science, research and innovation. Prior to this, Amy pursued her Bachelor in Petrochemical Engineering at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, KMITL (Thailand) and completed her own research in the area of waste treatment. In 2020, Amy completed her master degree in Chemical Engineering program at National Chung Cheng University (Taiwan) working with the development of biomass-derived nanomaterial and energy storage devices.

  • Mengxi is an industry-based PhD candidate and student member of Water Research Australia, working in collaboration with Melbourne Water, Seqwater, and Goulburn Valley Water. She joined the AOM Lab in 2024 and is supported through the Australian Research Training Program (RTP). Her research focuses on algal accumulation and risk management in drinking water treatment plants. She is particularly interested in how recycled sludge supernatant affects plant performance, and is exploring practical strategies to reduce in-plant algal risks and improve process stability.

  • Zeinab joined the AOM lab in 2023, as a PhD student based in Water Research Laboratory (WRL) and Water Research Centre (WRC), School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, UNSW Sydney. Her research focuses on understanding carbon processes in upland peatlands, with particular interest in how disturbances such as longwall coal mining, drainage, and drought affect greenhouse gas emissions and carbon storage. Her research aims to inform sustainable management for these sensitive environments.

Zeinab holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering and is a recipient of the UNSW Tuition Fee Scholarship (TFS). She is passionate about developing practical engineering and nature-based solutions that protect vulnerable ecosystems and support climate sustainability.
