New Scholarship: The UNSW Nuclear Innovation Centre Tyree Foundation Nuclear Undergraduate Scholarship 

$10,000 per annum | up to 4 years 

Supporting students commencing studies in the field of Nuclear Engineering at UNSW.

  • Since 2021, the Sir William Tyree Foundation has played a vital role in advancing the careers of UNSW nuclear engineering students by equipping them with the skills and experiences needed to shape the future workforce. Through a combination of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research scholarships, the Foundation has created invaluable opportunities for students to engage with global experts, broaden their perspectives, and contribute to innovation in the nuclear field.

    These scholarships recognise excellence, innovation, and leadership, and are designed to support and inspire the next generation of nuclear professionals throughout their academic and research journey.

    Undergraduate Scholarships and Prizes

    • Nuclear Undergraduate Scholarship 
      Supporting students undertaking the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Nuclear).
      $10,000 | Up to 4 years
    • AtomCraft Prize 
      3 prizes awarded annually
      • 2 x $1,000 for outstanding contributions to the development of the AtomCraft prototype.
      • 1 x $1,000 in recognition of demonstrated leadership in fostering a cohesive, inclusive and effective team that can deliver quality results with limited resources and time.
      • 1 x $2,000 for the best undergraduate Nuclear Thesis Project.

    Postgraduate Scholarships

    • Nuclear Masters Award
      $8,000 | 1 year
      For students enrolled in the Master of Engineering Science (Nuclear Engineering) program.
    • Graduate Diploma Award
      $6,000 | 1 year 
      For students undertaking the Graduate Diploma in Nuclear Engineering.
    • Graduate Certificate Award
      $5,000 | 1 year 
      For students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Nuclear Engineering.

     Research Scholarships

    • Nuclear Research Stipend (PhD) 
      $40,000 per annum | Up to 3.5 years 
      For high-achieving PhD candidates conducting nuclear research.
    • Top-Up Scholarships (PhD) 
      $5,000 per annum | Up to 3 years 
      Available to PhD students with a primary scholarship, undertaking nuclear-focused research.

    How to Apply

    Supervisors who would like to submit an application for a research scholarship, are invited to send a one-page proposal to the contact below. Please submit (1) a one-page proposal and (2) evidence of export control checks to nuclearinnovationcentre@unsw.edu.au. Proposals can be submitted at any time, and we aim for a 2-week turnaround for outcomes.

    Travel Awards

    Up to $8,000
    Supports travel for students and postdoctoral researchers undertaking nuclear research, including participation in international conferences, technical training, or collaborative research placements.
