Arts, Design & Architecture Society Peer Mentoring Program

The UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture Society offers a Peer Mentoring Program for incoming Arts, Design and Architecture (and associated double degrees) students.

The transition from high school to university can be challenging. This program is designed to support you through that journey. As a mentee, you will be guided by experienced ADA mentors from older years and placed into a group with other first year students. Through a range of fun and practical activities, you’ll build connections, gain guidance and feel more confident navigating UNSW life.

The program includes weekly meet-ups with your mentoring group of other first year students, as well as opening and closing events to help you settle in, make new friends and get the most out of your university experience.

Students are paired with trained mentors from their degree, ranging from second year and above. Organised by BESA and endorsed by Peer Mentoring @ UNSW and the UNSW Built Environment school, the program begins with a peer mentoring welcome, followed by smaller group mentoring sessions. Meetings are held in person or online, depending on mentor and mentee preferences.

Organisation of Planning Students (OOPS) Peer Mentoring Program

The OOPS Peer Mentoring Program aims to assist new City Planning Students to get settled into university. This interactive program is for all undergraduate students of the Planning Degree, and University as a whole. First-year students are the mentees, who are supported by trained mentors from within their degree. The mentors will range from second year and above, and will assist our first years with their transition to UNSW, introducing the unique structure of the City Planning degree and creating opportunities to make new friendships within the community!

Why join peer mentoring?

Joining a peer mentoring program offers a unique opportunity to expand your network and develop key skills that foster both personal and professional growth. As a mentee, you'll receive guidance from a senior student (mentor) to help you navigate university life with confidence. As a mentor, your support will empower new students to thrive academically and socially, while you build valuable skills. These include leadership, communication, and problem-solving that will enhance your employability and set you apart in the future.
